Don’t have much information on the deal right now but several different sources have confirmed OLB Kawika Mitchell is headed to the Bills on a multi-year deal. This is obviously bad for the Giants as Mitchell had a great under-the-radar season for Big Blue. Looks like Reggie Torbor is also gone so the Giants are certainly going to need to address the linebacker position in either free agency or the draft.
Hey guys,
Sorry about the recent lack of activity but we are still trying to work things out for the interview with Ralph Vacchiano. Stay tuned for updates and hopefully we can get him on here within the next week or two. Thanks for your patience.
Kevin
Ralph Vacchiano, the New York Giants beat writer for the New York Daily News, will be interviewed by yours truly sometime on Saturday. So you will hear all about how the NFL combine is progressing sometime on Sunday. The combine is closed to the press, but the players, scouts, and coaches are allowed to talk with reporters. So Vacchiano will know all about what is happening in the combine, who the Giants are keeping an eye on, and so on. It’s an exclusive interview you’re not going to want to miss. So don’t forget to tune in on Sunday and get all the latest info on the NFL combine straight from the inside, with your main source, Kevin and I on NYGiantscast.
Jeff Feagles isn’t going anywhere. The player who holds the NFL record for consecutive games played and the NFL record for punts downed inside the 20 is still on board with the Super Bowl Champs. The specifics of the contract have not been released, but Feagles made $1 million last year.
Lawrence Tynes is close to a 5 year, $7 million contract with the G-men. And yes. He’s still Scottish.
As soon as I click the “Publish” button on this post, I am getting up from my seat and going to the production room where I will meet Kevin and we are going to do our season recap podcast. Hope everyone enjoys!!!
The title says it all, our next show will be this Tuesday, February the 12th. It will be a season recap show where we go through the 2007-2008 Giants season from week to week, with thoughts, questions, and random observations throughout the year. Feel free to send us your e-mails (we promise to take care of all unread (on the air) ones!) and/or your calls with your thoughts about the season, or any specific point.
Steve Spagnuolo will be coming back to the Giants next year! The fabulous D-Coordinator was the front-runner for the Washington job but is headed back to the Giants. Details are sparse as of now but here’s the word from ESPN’s Chris Mortensen.
“New York Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, who interviewed for the Redskins’ head coaching job the past three days, has decided to stay in New York.
Spagnuolo was not offered the Redskins job but his agent Bob Lamont said “it didn’t matter because his heart is in New York City.”
“The Redskins were great … it was a great interview,” Lamont said.
The Giants are also giving Spagnuolo a new three-year contract in excess of $2 million per year, which would make him the league’s highest-paid defensive coordinator.
With Spagnuolo out of the running, former Giants head coach Jim Fassel emerges as the leading candidate to get the Redskins job.”
The New York Football Giants, defying all expectations, including our own here on NYGiantscast, have become YOUR SUPER BOWL XLII WORLD CHAMPIONS. Ladies and gentlemen, they have done it. They came from behind and beat the formerly perfect New England Patriots. I have some random thoughts that really don’t have anything to do with each other, but all must be said. Hopefully you can organize them better than I can.
-Eli MANning. His final drive has solidified his journey to stardom. He is officially here. No longer will I doubt him or his ability to lead a team to victory. The monkey is gone. New York, embrace this man.
-The New England Patriots will go from possibly the best team in NFL history to the best team in NFL history that couldn’t finish what they started. Oh well. I’m not complaining.
-Tom Brady’s pretty boy career is tarnished forever. No matter what he does, this will always haunt not only him, but his record. Don’t get me wrong, Tom Brady has accomplished what almost no other person has been able to do in his career. To him or the media, at least for another year, this will not matter.
-Bill Belichick is going to have a rough offseason. Reports say he taped pregame warmups of the Rams in the 2001-2002 Super Bowl. If this is in fact the case, Belichick could be suspended for an entire season, and Patriots owner Robert Kraft is already showing signs of anger towards Belichick over the scandal. This is going to be interesting to follow.
-The Giants could not possibly have drafted better this year. I know we’ve said it so many times, but it deserves to be said. Let me list once again for you the contributions, keeping them Super Bowl specific: Kevin Boss with a catch that was essential to a touchdown. Steve Smith had multiple first down catches. Ahmad Bradshaw kept the clock moving the whole game. Jay Alford had a sack on the Patriots desperation drive at the end of the game. Aaron Ross and Michael Johnson didn’t have anything particularly spectacular this game, but their contributions this season have been essential.
-The retiring players after this game could create an interesting list. Older players with retiring potential include: Michael Strahan, Kareem McKenzie, and Amani Toomer, just to name a few.
Incase you couldn’t already figure it out, let me reiterate it one more time for you: THE NEW YORK GIANTS ARE THE SUPER BOWL XLII CHAMPIONS. Soak it in folks, the feeling is unimaginable.
Kevin and I went on Patriotscast yesterday to assure the football world that the Giants will not go quietly into the night. We talked pure New York Giants football, and made it known the Big Blue is looking to be the Super Bowl XLII Champs. Take a listen. You will not be disappointed.
“I’ve talked all week long to the guys about focusing on this game, not having any distractions,” Spagnuolo said. “I don’t want to be hypocritical. We’re strictly focused on the game. I have a lot of respect for John Mara and Tom Coughlin. I want to keep my loyalties in that regard. I’m just going to focus on the moment right now and with what we’re dealing with right here.
“I think when you get into this business you have two dreams as a football coach. One is to win a Super Bowl and possibly be a head coach at the highest level. It is a dream but I’m focused on the one dream right now.”
It certainly sounds like Spags has some big interest in the job by these comments as he wants to be a head coach. As long as it doesn’t distract the team…
