Giants Select S Kenny Phillips, Miami
posted by Kyle on April 26th, 2008
The Giants picked Safety Kenny Phillips from Miami, filling a huge need in their defense. This is a great pick with number 31.
However…the controversy is the 2nd round pick. The Giants took the injury prone CB Terrell Thomas while LB Dan Connor was still available. This, in my opinion, is absolutely absurd, and I know at least Kevin, and possibly many more Giants fans are on board with me on this one. The Giants NEED a linebacker, a premier linebacker fell into the Giants’ lap, and they dropped the ball. If someone would like to explain this one to the NYGiantscast staff, please jump in because I am absolutely stunned right now.

Love the Kenny Phillips pick at #31. He’s by no means a finished product, but coming from Miami, a school that’s produced many great defensive backs, I’m very happy with the pick. He was the main guy I looked for there.
As for Thomas…look, after last year I gotta have faith in Jerry Reese, but to take the #117 rated player on ESPN’s board over other options such as Dan Connor? Giants could have gone with another WR with Toomer’s career coming to a close sometime soon as well. In Jerry we trust I guess…lest we forget Alford was picked higher than he was rated and he looks like a good value pick in Round 3. I’m surprised they didn’t take Connor though.
