Spagnuolo Is Staying!!!!

Steve Spagnuolo will be coming back to the Giants next year! The fabulous D-Coordinator was the front-runner for the Washington job but is headed back to the Giants. Details are sparse as of now but here’s the word from ESPN’s Chris Mortensen.
“New York Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, who interviewed for the Redskins’ head coaching job the past three days, has decided to stay in New York.
Spagnuolo was not offered the Redskins job but his agent Bob Lamont said “it didn’t matter because his heart is in New York City.”
“The Redskins were great … it was a great interview,” Lamont said.
The Giants are also giving Spagnuolo a new three-year contract in excess of $2 million per year, which would make him the league’s highest-paid defensive coordinator.
With Spagnuolo out of the running, former Giants head coach Jim Fassel emerges as the leading candidate to get the Redskins job.”

This is excellent, excellent news. The defense was CRITICAL to the Giants success this year, and this genius was the foundation. The old saying is “defense wins championships,” and that certainly held true this year, as the Giants defense held the then 18-0 Patriots to their lowest point total of the entire year. Thank you Spags for keeping loyal to the Super Bowl champs.
